Who Dropped The Ball Here?
I finally got a chance to watch Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B on Lifetime and like many, I too was highly disappointed. Honestly, I did expect better from Lifetime network despite all the red flag warning signs. I believe we [all of the millions of viewers who participated in the ratings game for the movie to peak the #2 cable watched show this past weekend] were fooled by the jet eye mind trick.
From the very beginning, Aaliyah’s family disapproved of the tv project and was never included in the project. R. Kelly has been banned from speaking about his illegal relationship and marriage to Aaliyah, and music producers Timbaland and Missy shared the same feelings as Aaliyah’s family, hence why Aaliyah’s hit songs were not included in the movie.
Lifetime then decided to bring in daytime talk show host Wendy Williams as executive producer of the film in an attempt to verify the accuracy of Aaliyah’s relationship with R. Kelly and she took the bait. Sadly, Williams took the bait for monetary reasons and did not deliver on her verbal promises that she hyped up each week on her hot topic segment.
Following reactions on the internet, Wendy had little to say on her Monday’s show, and noted that while there were mixed feelings she thought actress, Alexsandra Shipp did a great job playing the role of Aaliyah.
I felt the casting of the movie was horrible minus Aaliyah and her immediate family including her uncle Barry Hankerson characters. The movie was poorly edited and rushed similar to the story lines that were placed in the movie and it lacked depth of Aaliyah’s talent.
Timbaland sounded off during the tv premiere calling the movie ‘bullish-t’ and a disrespect to Aaliyah’s legacy. Timbo continued a series a funny meme’s that set of an enormous chain reaction.
Here are a few trending meme’s below:
I’m still stuck on how Lifetime could release a film based on their ideology of who Aaliyah without the consent of her parents. This speaks volumes to the underlying POLI-TRICKS of the entertainment industry and once again ‘GREED’ was at the forefront of this project. SMH!
