Storm right after the Calm!
Just as Beyonce was getting all the praise for her “ live performance” of the National Anthem at the 57th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony for Barack H. Obama on Monday (Jan. 21] an anonymous witness [from the marine band] informs the public that Beyonce had opted to lip-sync her performance instead. The ‘Love On Top‘ singer reportedly changed agendas at a last minute’s notice before taking center stage of the Capitol Hill podium.
Master Sgt. Kristin DuBois of the U.S. Marine Band told numerous outlets yesterday that Bey requested to use a “pre-recording” of her voice for the National Anthem and that she “did not actually sing.” Kristin also added that “we don’t know why the decision was made.” She also added that using pre-recordings were not uncommon.
There still has been no official word from Bey’s camp [which is often typical], media reports of the alleged “lipsync” heightened after Kelly Clarkson [who also performed at the inaugural ceremony] reps defended Kelly Clarkson’s live performance saying:
“My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” was without the backing of a pre-recorded track.”
So, Did Beyonce lip-synch or not?
Given the popular attention of this story, another spokesperson from the Marine Band weighed in and somewhat recants the leaked story:
“Regarding Ms. Knowles-Carter’s vocal performance. No one in the Marine Band is in a position to assess whether it was live or pre-recorded.”
Yet the spokesperson went on to say:
[polldaddy poll=6849822]“There was no opportunity for Ms. Knowles-Carter to rehearse with the Marine Band before the Inauguration so it was determined that a live performance by the band was ill-advised for such a high-profile event.”
