The 2012 Iheart Music Festival already had an all-star line-up of performers [Rihanna, Neyo, Green Day, Lil Wayne, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Aero Smith, Brad Paisley to name a few] but fans were in for a huge surprise when Mary J. Blige took the stage. The R&B queen diva delighted the crowd with a one-time only special performance with the legendary singer/song writer, Prince.
Prince arrived on stage with a 1970’s disco-inspired outfit with some retro gold shades that showed off his natural afro. Blige was performing Aretha Frankline”s “Sweet Thing” and Prince jumped right in andbegan singing duet with Blige. The duo then performed a beautiful rendition of “Nothing Compares To U” [a song that Prince wrote for Sinead O’Connor in the 80’s] and had the audience join in on the chorus.
Sidebar: I know Mary J. Blige was in all her glory to perform with Prince. Prior to singing, Blige expressed her honor for Prince to choose her of all singers to do duet song with her.
“I feel so proud to have you up here with me. This is a blessing becasue I know that you have be very particular about who you mess with and so am I”
