Wyclef Jean stirred up some controversy last week while promoting his new book “Purpose”; a memoir of the muscian’s life and rise to fame with “The Fugees”. In the book, Wyclef talks of the demise of “The Fugees” noting that Lauryn Hill led him to believe that her first child Zion was his up until she gave birth.
Wyclef, has publicly stated on the Wendy Williams show that his intention is not disrespect Lauryn Hill by exposing the truth but it was something that had to be done.
“I didn’t call Lauryn cause she knows the story …. There’s over a 1,000 people that know the story. What I wanted history to document was the truth because when Lauryn did the “MisEducation of Lauryn Hill” album there was alot of Lauryn Hill fans that were saying “Man Wyclef done broke Lauryn Hill’s heart“. After Wyclef Jean , Lauryn has had five children, and my responsiblities is to apologize and say in my twenties… and we have to move forward as adults…if yuo read entire the book, you’ll see I’m not disrespecting Lauryn Hill.”
Well, Ms. Hill has yet to release a statement but her ex-partner/father of her five children, Rohan Marley says Wyclef is a liar and was well aware that Zion was his child and not Wyclef prior to Lauryn Hill giving birth. Here’s what Rohan told TMZ:
“He knew from jump that was my son from the day [Lauryn] was pregnant… He also said that Wyclef and Lauryn did mess around before he came onto the scene, but during the time period in question, he spent countless hours in the studio with Lauryn so there’s no way there was ever an affair.”
Rohan went on to say that Wyclef accusations are ” bullshit” noting that Wyclef hooked him and Lauryn up
“They were definitely not messing around, or he would never have given me the okay…. He’s just saying false things to get book headlines.”
This story gets more twisted the more we read into to. We all know there are two sides to every story but it’s good to see Rohan Marley [who is currently not with Lauryn] speaking up for her.
