Age 20: Pop Smoke’s Death And Why He Needed More Time!

Just days after releasing his second album ” Meet The Woo, Vol 2. ” , and charting billboard’s top ten list, Pop Smoke life comes to a tragic end. The 20-year old was killed at his rental home in Los Angeles early Wednesday morning (Feb.19th) from a reported home invasion robbery.

Bashar, Barakah Johnson known to many as Pop Smoke was hip hop’s 2019 breakout star. The brooklyn born rapper signature voice, gritty wit on wax, and charismatic charm amassed the ‘woo’ general into superstardom. This was a huge feet for Pop Smoke; who was just eighteen years old when he stepped into the music arena.

” No Such Thing As A Life, That’s Better Than Yours, No Such Thing, No Such Thing. “

His party anthem releases ‘Welcome To The Party’ and ‘Dior’ reached the top five 2019 summer bangers list and placed him in the league of his elder hip hop peers. There was also a softer-side to Pop Smoke that was rarely shown in his public exterior; yet it was revealed heavily in his songs.

In ‘PTSD’ Pop Smoke reveals some un-easy truths about his upbringing in Canarsie, Brooklyn where he (like so many others) had to survive by any means. Pop Smoke’s music is a reflection of his good, bad, and ugly candor. Beyond the smile, flashy dress style, and charismatic vibe – Pop Smoke openly discloses his internal pain, coping mechanisms, and woo mentality that painted the full picture of a young man who was still BECOMING.

POP SMOKE NEEDED MORE TIME!

As his rise to fame heightened so did his interest to travel further than his neighborhood block. In addition to collaborating with top acts – Travis Scott, H.E.R and Nicki Minaj Pop Smoke nabbed a lead role in Eddie Huang’s forthcoming film ‘Boogie’ , and recently launched a give-back initiative entitled ‘Shoot For The Stars’.

Pop Smoke was just getting started and was sure to shake up all areas of his interest. Pop Smoke’s talent, energy, and influence hit-differently and was contagious for PLUMs under 21 who admired the young star. Pop Smoke’s gifts were transcending beyond Hip Hop music; and sadly his promising career was cut too short.

Our deepest condolences to the Johnson family.

One Love PLUMS!
