As NYFW and All Star Weekend kicked of its weekend filled activities Drake pulled a ‘Beyonce’ and released his new album ‘If Your Reading This Its Too Late‘ unannounced at 12:00am [est] today long with a short film entitled ‘Jungle’ which crashed the internet.
In short video clip, Drake revisits his hometown of Canada [the 6]. Various clips are shown as Drake takes us down memory lane of his life prior to his flight to super stardom. Drake shows rare footage of himself singing with his father, a home audition where he raps a song from ‘The Fugees’, pit stops at old hangout areas and childhood friends.
While life may seem less ‘enthusiastic’ for an aspiring rapper [to some] in-retrospect, its a place and time that has given Drake real happiness, and valuable relationships than his current status.
As Drake points out in the intro then again in the end, we’re living in the the era of a new ‘dawn’ and he finds himself drinking more, smoking more, and trying to keep his ‘sanity’ in a world that craves his celebrity status alone. Not knowing who to trust, feeling like your a waking target whenever you step out of the house are his symptoms of ‘mistrust’ and ‘isolation’ in the world of fame.
Take a listen to the new album below and if you’re feeling it, be sure to download it on itunes. A few stand out tracks that caught my attention were ‘6 God’ ‘Energy’ ‘Jungle’, ‘Know Yourself’, ‘ No Tellin’ and ‘Company’ feat. Travis Scott.
