The 57th Annual Grammy Awards premiered last night in Los Angeles California, and this year brought more conversation on social media than previous years. While I’d be the first to say that, Kanye’s attendance has ALOT do with that, there were other moments that trigger my fingers to tweet and join the conversation.
Let’s start with the red carpet. Nicki Minaj, Ciara, Beyonce, and Qwen Stefani were my favorite looks of the evening. Black seems to be the growing red carpet trend as of late and I loved the how each of these women pulled off their individual looks and unique dress designs. We deem it #PLUMCERTIFIED.
Ciara showed of her stunning legs, Nicki Minaj launched a thousand starships with her Tom Ford dress which included the split trims from the knees down, a low back line plunge, and alot of side-boob action. We all know Bey can pull off lace sequence, but this year I thought Mrs. Carter played it a little safe as did Qwen Stefani, but their figure was on point as usual.
I also loved Katy Perry’s crystal dress, and purple-grayish hairdo.
Now for my red carpet lows. I did like the color choice for Taylor Swift and Iggy Azalea, but Swift could’ve went with a different shoe color, and Iggy made a poor ‘hairdo’ choice.
Moving right along, Jennifer Hudson was too simple and plain-jane. Tom Ford or not, there was no WOW factor in the dress, and the shoes was an unmatched fit as well. J-Hud’s best feature was her hair, skin, and make-up which is always flawless.
Rihanna disappointed this year; sporting a pink over-sized cindarella-ish dress. Despite the alarming criticism over Rih’s look, her navy fans still hailed her as a fashion icon who does no wrong. Sadly, she failed on this number [in my opinion].
Kanye and Kim looked great last night. Kim debut her new short hair do in a 100-pound metallic silver/gold dress.
Sam Smith was the top winner of the 2015 Grammy’s included best record of the year for his smash hit single ‘Stay’. Smith performed the song with Mary J. Blige and the two were dynamic on stage together.
Other collaborative performances included Kanye, Rihanna, and Paul McCartney who performed their newly released song ‘FourFiveSeconds’ .
Hozier took us to church last night, and then more gospel poured in the ceremony when music icon Annie Lennox performed her classic record ‘I PUT A SPELL ON YOU’.
Pharell Williams made us all ‘HAPPY’ all over again with his marching band performance, and Prince reminded us that ‘albums’ matter just like ‘black lives’ matter.
Beyonce sung ‘Take My Hand Precious Lord’, and then John Legend and Common concluded the award ceremony with their award winner song ‘GLORY’ which resulted in a standing ovation for the two.
In true Grammy fashion, certain awards and categories, were not on the televised roster but were rewarded nonetheless. Kendrick Lamar won two grammy’s for best rap song, and best rap performance. Ziggy Marley won for best reggae album. No shade but I always wondered if Bob Marley’s annual birthday [Feb. 6th] has something to do with the constant Marley winnings year after year. They’re are other reggae acts and a little sharing of accolades should be awarded.
Joan Rivers finally won a grammy for best spoke word album for her newly released book ‘Diary Of A Mad Diva’. Rivers daughter Melissa accepted her award and told ‘E’ correspondent, Giuliana:
” It was a difficult moment, it’s a little bittersweet, she was nominated once for her comedy and then she was never nominated for any of her other books and then its like, now she goes and wins, but it’s wonderful how love she was and how she is getting so much attention now and people are really understanding what she was about. “
In awkward moments, Sia hid her face while singing her hit song ‘Chandelier’. The Australian singer recruited comedian/actress, Kristen Wigg to join Maddie Zeigler [who features in the popular video] for a duo dance number. The trio provided a similar mock of the original video with a comedy twist.
Katy Perry sparkled on the red carpet, and she also gave great vocals last night but her identical dress to Solange’s wedding gown was one of the trending topics of the night.
Madonna walked the red carpet with fellow rebel heart emcee Nas, and but her performance was very questionable. I’m still wondering who and or what the 50-year old was rebelling against.
Dressed in black and red with patent-leather black boots to match, Madonna seem took control over her devil-horned back-up dancers, but that didn’t stop them from tossing her across the stage. In the finale, Madonna’s body is lifted above the red burning fog. Hmm? To God Of The Living, Be The Glory, that’s all.
Kanye West made up with Taylor Swift, and Kanye also pulled a ‘Imma Let You Finish’ prank on Beck after Prince announced him as the winner for ‘album of the year’.
Honestly, I didn’t know who Beck, but after checking Beck’s music resume I’m glad that Kanye chose the ladder. However, Kanye did not hold his tongue. In a post live interview with ‘E’, Kanye called out the awards for overlooking great artists and their creativity. Ye went on to say that Beck should have given his award to Beyonce whom he feels was deserving of the award instead.
