After seven years of battling cancer, ESPN anchor Stuart Scott passed on Sunday [Jan.4th] at age 49. Scott was more than your average tv anchor that delivered accurate news. He was entertaining, witty, and he captivated audiences and the sports industry with his popular slang catchphrases ‘BOOYAH’, ‘Cooler Than The Other Side Of The Pillow’, and ‘Just Call Him Butter Cause He’s On A Roll’
Last year, Scott received the Jimmy V Perseverance Award and he delivered a touching speech. Scott reminded the audience that “Fighting Is Not Quitting, It’s Not Having A Pitty Party For Yourself… I’ve been fighting it for seven years says Scott “. After four surgeries, and more than 3 of his organs shutting down just seven days prior, Scott attended the annual event and credited the support of his colleagues, friends and family and a powerful message that concluded with a hug from his youngest daughter.
” Everyday, I’m reminded that our life’s journey is really about the people who touch us. When I First heard that I was going to be honored with this award. The very first time thing that I did, was I was speechless, I watched other great people grace this stage, and At my gut level, I really didn’t think I belong with those great people. But I remember one thing… To Never Give Up. “

Many athletes, sports commentators, executives remembered Stu and shared their condolences on social media including President Barak Obama.
Bonnie Bernstein says Scott was a trailblazer. He wrote on facebook:
“ESPN executives didn’t know what to make of him in the early 90’s. The hip hop slang. The catchphrases the bosses didn’t understand ‘BOOYAH!’ and ‘Cooler Than The Other Side Of The Pillow’, and ‘Just Call Him Butter Cause He’s On A Roll’ . What the hell does that mean?? Stu also had a polarizing effect on the air. There were plenty of viewers out there who felt Sty’s shtick was like proverbial nails on a chalkboard. “
President Obama said:
” Stu helped usher in a new way to talk about our favorite teams and the day’s best plays. For much of twenty years, public service and campaigns have kept me from my family. But where ever I went, I could flip on the TV and Stu and his colleagues on Sports Center were there. Over the years, he entertained us, and in the end, he inspired us with courage and love. Michelle and I offer our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and colleagues. “
