#WeAreHere Movement Starts With Each Of Us!
It is six month since 200 girls in Chibok, Nigeria were kidnapped from Boko Haram. Singer, Alicia Keys reminded us that the fight for their return is still in DIRE need and we cannot turn a blind eye.
The Grammy award winner, joined other protesters outside of the consulate general in Nigeria and chanted “Bring Back Our Girls”… When Do We Want Them, Now! Keys who is currently pregnant with her second child was asked why she decided to join the protest and she simply responded.
” I Am Mother, And I Felt Inclined To Take Action! “
Sidebar: Keys reminds us that the fight for justice is concern for every human being on this planet and ‘Doing Nothing’ is simply not an option any more.
The singer emphasizes the importance of Activism to her industry peers and fans saying:
” It’s my son’s birthday today which makes me feel even more in solidarity with the parents of the Chibok girls in Nigeria who were abducted 6 months ago today by Boko Haram. They are still missing!!! “
” At the moment of this rally those parents were marching on the Presidential Palace in Abuja to call on Goodluck Jonathan to pay attention to what can be done to free those girls from a situation too horrible to imagine. It’s difficult and it won’t be easy but we have to keep the pressure on because these girls represent all the girls being kept from an education, they represent all girls who are looked upon as property and they represent rape and violence against women as a weapon of war all over the world! “
* None of the 276 young women that were kidnapped in Chibok have been rescued!
