His name is Michael Brown, an eighteen year-oldwho was gunned down on Saturday August 9th at 2:49pm in a predominantly black neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri. One side of the story says,  Brown was unarmed with his hands up in the air just seconds before police shot him eight times. The other story presented in the media says Brown and a police officer wrestled over a gun inside of a police car, prior to the public chase and the fatal shooting that left Brown dead in the street for four hours.

According to the Associated Press, Brown was in town visiting his grandmother.

” Harrison says she was expecting to see her 18-year old grandson that afternoon only to learn of his death when she heard the commotion outside of the apartment complex.  He was running this way! When I got up there, my grandson was lying on the pavement. I asked police what happened. They didn’t tell me nothing.”

The death of Brown has sparked much outrage with repeated citizen’s protest, looting, and a recent stand off with police.

Brown’s mother, Lesley McSpadden, told an acquaintance the shooting was “wrong and it was cold-hearted. You don’t treat a dog like that…. when you want to stop someone , you don’t kill em, you shoot them in the leg or something.”

Tensions between police and community residents have increased. On Sunday night witnesses uploaded pictures of swat team police officers along with heavy artillery trucks [you know the ones we often see only in movies or when you visit an actual army base] that were placed in the middle of the streets  as a crowd of mourners along with Brown’s family and friends held #Justice For Brown signs

We’ve now learned that the FBI has opened an investigation to see whether Brown’s civil rights were violated.

” We have initiated a civil rights investigation, announced FBI spokeswoman, Cheryl Mimura “.
