Salute: Lupita Nyongo Wins Oscar For Best Supporting Actress!

And The Winner Is……

Lupita Nyongo was crowned the winner for best supporting actress category at the 86th Academy Awards last night. The 30-year-old Yale graduate was seemingly surprised as her named was called, but she looked stunningly beautiful as she walked up to the stage in a sky blue custom-made Prada gown to accept her award.

Earlier on the red carpet when asked about her choice of color, Lupita told Ryan Seacrest that she wore the color in honor of her native home town  in West Africa.

” It’s a blue that reminds me of Nairobi so I wanted to have a little bit of home – said Lupita

Overwhelmed by by the honor and support in the auditorium Lupita said:

” Thank you to the Academy for this incredible honor. It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else, so I want to salute the spirit of passing for her guidance. And for Solomon thank you for telling her story and your own.”

Lupita went on to thank the man who birth her superstardom in Hollywood, director Steve McQueen

” Steve McQueen [film director] you charge everything you fashion with the breath of your own spirit. Thank you for putting in me this position. It has been the joy of my life. I’m sure the dead is standing about you, and watching, and they’re grateful and so I am.”

Lupita went on to thank her fellow cast members including lead actor] Chiwetel Ejofor who played Solomon NorthUp saying:

” Thank you Chewetel for your fearlessness and how deeply you went for telling Solomon’s story. “

In conclusion Lupita said:

” I want to thank my family for your training  and the Yale school of drama for your training. My friends, My brother Junior whose sitting by my side, my best friend…… “

” When I look down at this golden statute may it remind me and every little child that no matter where your from that  YOUR DREAMS ARE VALID! 

Lupita has had an AMAZING year thus far. This is her 4th award for her role in 12 Years A Slave. She also won at the Screen Actors Guild Award, Independent Spirit Awards, and the Critic Choice Awards for the same category.
