The passing of famous actor, James Avery widely known as ‘Uncle Phil’ on the hit show Fresh Prince Of Bel Air touched the hearts of many fans and his co-stars. Avery, 68 passed away on New Years Eve from complications of an open heart surgery he’d undergone a few weeks prior at Glendale, California. Avery leaves behind his wife Barbara Avery, and stepson Kevin Waters.
Will Smith took to his facebook page over the weekend and wrote a personal message in honor of Avery’s legacy with the photo [pic above] saying:
“Some of my greatest lessons in Acting, Living, and being a respectable human being came through James Avery. Every young man needs and Uncle Phil. This photo was the last time we were together. Rest in Peace.“
Jada Pinkett also wrote a public message issuing prayers and condolences to Avery’s family writing:
“Happy New Year everyone! I was hoping to start the new year differently but we have lost yet another friend. James Avery who we all lovingly know as Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince has passed. Our condolences to aunt Florence [his mother], Miss Barbara [his wife] and all those who love him. “
James Avery was truly one of the greatest TV dads to grace our television screens. TV Guide previously ranked at No.34 of the 50 Greatest TV Dad’s Of All Time.
James Avery will forever be remembered. May you Rest In Paradise [RIP].
