Ashanti is gearing up to debut her new album ‘Brave Heart‘ this weekend. The singer released a few promo pics to show off her inner “Braveheart“. The release of her fifth studio album provides a more in depth look into Ashanti personal relationships.
Her on and off nine-year relationship with rapper, Nelly has always probed curiosity as to whether or not two will finally commit to one another and take their relationship to the next level [marriage and kids], but Ashanti is putting her main focus in her music at the moment.
In an interview with Hot 97 last month Ashanti said:
“I’ve grown and there’s alot that has happened. The whole concept is that I’m so just confident from top to bottom it tells a story. It’s true Ashanti and it feels like me. They’re things I express a little deeper . There’s a record I have called ‘SCARS‘ and its a very deep record.”
When asked if the record is about Nelly, Ashanti said:
“He put a few scars on me [but never physically]. We definitely put scars on each other. But getting back to the record I think I’m revealing more than what I have on previous records.”
As for her first single ‘Never Should Have‘, Ashanti said:
” Me and Nelly, sometimes we were cool sometimes were weren’t. But at that time when I was writing that record we were in a space where we we were getting cool again. We were skyping when I played the record for him so it’s was weird because I when I was writing the song I was mad, but he loved the record. “
