As Solange gears up to release her new single “Choreography” featuring Bun B and Mannie Fresh, the Brooklynite stopped by New York’s Hot 97 radio show where she talked about a array of topics from her recent infamous “laundry mat” performance, getting suspended from school due to her love of rapper Nas back in junior high school], Beyonce’s fan craze incident in Brazil [where a fan pulls her off stage] and getting DJ lessons from Q.Tip and more.

On Her Suspension In Junior High School:
” I went to a Christian school and I think I had the vibe cover of him[ Nas] with his ‘God Son’ tattoo on his stomach and I had like this whole homage to him in my locker. Obviously the Christian dean thought that was blasphemous to have a tattoo saying: God Son but my but my argument was that there was a girl who had a Justin Timberlake poster in her locker with a cross on his chest so I didn’t see what the difference was. “
” So I refused to take it down. and I actually spoke with I told my parents and told them and they stood by it. The dean told me if I didn’t take it down by Friday [I think it was a Wednesday when it happened] I would get a suspension…. I took the suspension. “
On Beyonce’s recent concert scare from a Beyhive fan:
“I have to give her the hugest props for being that accessible. But it is scary especially as a family member. It’s scary to watch. “
On Joining The Celebrity DJ-ing bandwagon:
” I actually called Tip [who is my favorite DJ]….I’ve been producing for a long time. I’ve always been a music love and played music at parties [Ipod Hog Chick]. Actually it was after the earthquakes in Haiti and I wanted to help out and contribute in some way. I had an event and asked all of my favorite DJ’s to play and I was like you know what I am going to play some music. “
” So my sister and Jay [it was my birthday] and they bought me turntable and said “were tired of you being a Ipod dj -learn how to be a DJ. So I called Tip and said I know you can;t DJ but can you give me a basic level, and nothing is basic with him. And he did and he put Impeach the president on two different sides and he literally for five hours let me go back and forth until I was able to beat match. “
