The 2013 BET Awards ceremony kicked off last night at the Nokia theater in Los Angeles, and many stars stepped out to attend to attend [what many people are saying is the best BET Awards] in years. Of course the red carpet was flooded with stars; some that brought their ‘A’ game in Fashion and some who unfortunately missed the mark at this year’s award ceremony. Take a look at some of my favorite and unlikeable red carpet moments below:
Lets start with the stars above. I loved Eve’s colorblocking ensemble but I thought her outfit was a bit safe and therefore not a fashion “WOW” for me. Meagan Good looks stunning in sea blue – but she could have altered her mid-drift area a tad bit. Actress, Regina Hall l looks simple and chic in a form fitting black dress with matching color shoes. Brandy opted for a ivory- pleaded dress along with her nude Christian Loubiton’s. The color synced perfectly with Brandy “chocolate beauty”
Rapper J.Cole brought a little sophistication to his wardrobe this year; sporting a black and gold printed shirt with matching accessories, and basic black jean and matching boots. French Montana put a little spice and animal print to his colorful ensemble but surely hit a fashion “WOE” with this outfit [minus the sunglasses. Rapper, Two Chainz is known for his black and gold themed clothes but this outfit hit an all tie low. Now, I understand “kilts” are big in today’s men’s fashion wear [ at least for some] but he looks like he has on straight-jacket dress on. I’m not sure who’s styling two chains but the only that was impressive in this outfit was Chainz’s sneaker detail.
Lastly, we have rapper, Trinidad James [on far right]. Not really sure what to say other than – “I haven’t quite got it yet“. Gold is Jame’s trademark in his rap songs and his fashion wear. However, his fashion needs an immediate make-over. Jame’s outfit was “too busy”. There was so much going on. The jacket [with a variety of buttons, the multiple gold chains, the gold earrings, the gold rims on the sunglasses, and the blue/white/red spiked toe shoes to top it off.
Other men opted for a more casual and basic look instead.
Jamie Fox wore all white with a Trayon Martin t-shirt. Although the outfit was simple it drew ALOT of attention because of the message in the outfit. Kendrick Lamar, had a good red carpet moment in all white as well. What I like in Lamar’s wear is that “its not over the top“; an LA fitted hat, a printed white shirt and matching jeans and sneakers. Music producer, Pharell Williams, and Actor, Terrence Howard opted for suits instead. I personally would of preferred another choice of color for the two but there were not huge disappointments.
Reality star, Kenya Moore was ‘gone with the wind fabulous‘ in her all white sequin dress, louboutin shoes, chanel clutch, and diamond hoop earrings. Singer, Elle Varner took “on coffee and cream” knee-high dress with a pointer heel shoe; while I like this outfit, its definitely not the right choice for an award ceremony. Michelle Williams truly embodied the all white theme and she had one of the most favorite looks on the carpet. Jordan Sparks looked great and in shape but her outfit played mostly on Jordan’s Sparks personality. Jordan is sweet, very likeable in the industry, America has crowned her an “idol” and her outfit described just that. It looked so “girl next door”. It was way too simple but her body looks great and she pulled it off.
Black was also a trending theme at last night’s ceremony. Actress, Taraji P. Henderson, Nicki Minaj, Gabby Douglas and rapper, Lil Mama all took on black different ways but it worked. I loved Gabby’s “cookie and cream” dress with the small trail attached. Lil Mama sported an formal black sequence dress while Nicki Minaj took on a black printed lace dress with leather black leather accents that went perfectly [on the sides] of her trimmed waist.
