Recap: R&B Divas Reunion: Part 1

divas-reunion

I finally got a chance to watch part one of the R&B Divas show last night and ironically my feelings on most of the drama topics are still the same.. In case you missed it here’s the rundown. The consensus issue of Angie Stone “first class” mentality was brought up yet again and although Angie tried to shed light on her phrase statement of First class vs. Coach mentality folks; it was quite clear that the consensus was pretty much the same except for Monifah and Latocha Scott who didn’t seem offended by Angie’s initial comment during the season show. Keke Palmer offered an apology to Angie for the “nasty words” she called her throughout the show [when the two would bumps head] but noted that she felt bad after watching herself on the show, and her mother slapping her [for disrespecting her elders] as a result.

Monifah was brought into the hot seat about her estranged relationship with her daughter  [a Christian who strongly does not believe in homosexual relationships of any kind] . Monifah reminded host Joe Sinclair and the world listeners that when she got engaged to her longtime girlfriend Terez [on the show]  she wanted to share the news with her daughter [publicly] and inform people that “its okay to disagree” with  loved ones, and yet still respect and love that individual just the same. Monifah’s daughter was adamant about  not attending the wedding ceremony but she did agree to attend the reception in honor of her love for her mother.

Faith was absent from the show [as she was for most of the episodes of the season]. As Faith told her co-stars midway during season two – she no longer resides in Atlanta and has no desires of moving back there. Furthermore, Faith went on to say that her role as “mother” comes first and she needs to align her priorities before making a commitment. Faith currently resides in Los Angeles.

And of course the highlighted and most talked about drama on the show was addressed “Nicci Gilbert” vs. “Syleena Johnson“.

These two clearly have some issues that stem long before their appearance on the show because it was quite apparent that these two have alot of layers to uncover than what they were willing to share.  Syleena stuck to her claims that Nicci’s unauthorized clearance of her appearance in Syleena “Mommy Got Soul” workout DVD heightened the feud between the two. While Syleena chose not to address her beef with Nicci – Nicci chimed in to tell her side and opened up an semi-emotional testimony about how she felt “hurt” by the public’s perception of her role on the show as the “mean spiteful girl’. Nicci in one example described how people were walking up to her mother calling her “evil” for not signing the release form of the video. However, Nicci gave no real explanation as to why she didn’t sign off of the video but she did bring a “third party” person [the videographer] in the mix. which concluded the part one reunion show.

You can watch it all unfold below:

Stay tuned for part two of the reunion show next Wednesday [July 3rd] 9pm est. on Tvone Network
