[Interview] Lil Kim Talks New Song, Maino, and New Album On MTV Rap Fix

2012 is definitely the year of the comebacks for old artists and takeover season for current artists. Well, Lil Kim is on her comeback grind and ‘Team Kim’ is going hard in the marketing department. Lil Kim is making her rounds on red carpet events, and clubs and shows along midwest and southern district. She recently appeared on BET’s ‘RIP The Runway’ where she performed her new single ‘If You Love Me’ and this week she stopped by Sway’s MTV Rap Fix show to promote her new song and interestingly she dished a little on her current love life and on past relationship with ex-boo rapper Maino who still seems to make Kim blush whenever his name is mentioned.

Lil Kim tells sway that her new song “If You Love Me” is in response to someone [Maino] who made a record to her ‘I Still Love You’ and ‘That Could Be Us’ where he talked about his relationship with Kim prior to going to jail and then the two becoming estranged after her release from prison one year later.

Sidebar: I always thought that there was this consensus amongst artists that it’s somehow easier to date someone in your league because they understand the life of musician and the entertainment industry as a whole.

Well Kim says think again? Kim admits to Sway that she has dated other celebrities but “it’s been hard”

There is a lot in my life, in my personal life, as far as dealing in relationships, that people don’t know, and if they found out, they’ll be like, What? You were with who? I’ve dated a couple of celebrities and it’s so hard. But right now, I haven’t really dated in a couple of months.

As for her music Kim says that she is evolving with the change that God has ordained for her.

Creatively, as an artist, I think I’m in my Kanye West mode; you kknow what I’m mean. You do whatever you wanna do and don’t give a sh*t what nobody have to say about it. It’s all about taking chances. I’m not saying that you make music that fans may not like you. I always want give my fans what they want… I don’t just make music for myself.. I make it for the world
