Triple Threat!
Singer, Solange, Erkyah Badu, and Ledisi are the chosen ‘beauties‘ of the May issue of Essence magazine. The upcoming issue celebrates individuality and beauty, and who better chosen that these artistic beauties to grace the cover. Their, music and fashion style is bold, fearless, and attractive all at once.
Although they work in the same industry, each of these women presents their own style and persona. Solange is a constant red carpet show-stopper. Her style of dress is simply ‘breathtaking‘. When asked about the inspiration behind her self-expression, Solange says:
” We all have the option of how we want to express ourselves through our life, hair style or whatever we decide. We shouldn’t be pigeonholed into any one category. “
On Motherhood:
” You find that the older your children get and the more that they become who they are, you really you have to shape your morals and values around that personality that has come into itself. “

Erykah Badu is the ultimate “hair-nista“. Similar to her music [which is truly inspiring], Badu fashion style is constantly evolving. Badu received her fashion nod recently, and was chosen as the ‘fashion ambassador‘ for Givenchy’s 2014 Spring and Summer collection. As Badu explains:
“I view my hair and clothes as functional art. I’m my own stylist and I love it, but I am not trying to make a statement. “

Ledisi aka “loc-afella beauty” is known for her power -house vocals and long locs. The singer is always chaning up her hairstyles and color also. Ledisi recently traded her signature cranberry colored locs for blonde-highlights. Ledisi reveals:
“Although I’m known for my long, colorful locs, I still don’ take my hair too seriously. I experiment a lot dyeing it and constantly switching styles grab attention. My hair is one of my best accessories and changing it helps express who I am. “
