J.Cole sends an impactful message to both the ‘youth‘ and ‘government‘ regarding the ‘War On Drugs‘ in his new video “Crooked Smile“. Cole tributes the video to 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley -Jones who was killed in a police raid in Detroit back in 2010.
Jones was asleep on the living room couch when police raided her home in search of a suspect in the murder of a 17-year old who was gunned down. In the wake of Jones [unexplainable death] Officer, Joseph Weekely was charged with involuntary manslaughter and careless discharge of a firearm. Due to the popularity of the case, Weekly first trial resulted in a ‘mistrial‘ and now a ‘re-trial‘ has been set for December of this year.
In the vid, Cole celebrates the his daughter’s birthday with his mother and father just moments before police break into his home. His daughter who was asleep awakens and watches as police handcuff her dad from her bedroom door. Seconds later, another officer enters the home and fires off without prior scouting. By the end of the video, Cole is teary-eyed, his parents are in a state of disbelief and images of his daughter’s fondest memories flash across the screen with the ending message that read:
“For Aiyana Stanley Jones! Please Re-Consider The War On Drugs!”
A powerful tribute to say the least. Take a look at the video.
