Dallas Cowboys upcoming star, Marshawn Kneeland tragic passing on Nov.6 has left many questions and whispers about the defensive end’s final moments. Kneeland was just 24 years of age and in the middle of his second season with the NFL Cowboys. Just three days prior on Monday Night football (Nov.3rd) Kneeland scored his first touchdown of the season by recovering a punt in the end zone against the Cardinals. Kneeland’s death is being ruled a suicide following a speed car chase between the subject (Kneeland) and Texas DPS.
Kneeland who was immensely beloved by family and friends had a promising career as the second round pick (56th overall) coming out of Western Michigan. He played in seven of the nine tackle games this year concluding his record with 15 tackles and six QB pressures.
So What Happened In the Final Moments Of Marshawn Kneeland Death?
Marshawn Kneeland was found with a self-inflicted gun wound around 1:30am by Frisco police and K-9 units. Texas DPS reportedly lost sight of Kneeland during their initial police chase. Highway Surveillance video footage shows Kneeland who was driving a black dodge charger speeding in the left lane on the Dallas North tollway. DPS- Dallas Police State troopers were attempting to stop a traffic violation; but lost sight of the vehicle.
A few moments later , the video shows Kneeland’s car traveling south bound one block from the Cowboys headquarters; The Star where the car then appears to crash into another vehicle; a pick up truck before fleeing the scene.
Cowboy’s team director – Cable Johnson issued a call for police to conduct a welfare check on Kneeland around 11:40pm after concerning group text messages reveal Marshawn saying that “he cannot go to jail” and also ‘goodbye’ to his close friends and family 20 minutes prior.
The NFL organization issued the following statement:
” It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family. “
This heartbreaking loss has impacted Kneeland’s family and friends; all of whom are in disbelief and described him as a kind hearted and full of life type of guy. Marshawn Kneeland lost his mother just two months before his NFL draft in 2024. To honor his mother and continue his football passion, Kneeland carried his mother’s ashes in a sealed urn locket attached to his chain.
Police reports also conclude that Kneeland’s girlfriend Catalina had also placed a call to Texas DPS and said “he has a gun and he is going to end it”. With all the findings that are now coming out surrounding Marshawn Kneeland’s death – what is clear and extremely sad is that Kneeland was going through an unimaginable suffering internally that he nor his love one saw in his expression externally until his untimely passing of Kneeland who was 24 years old.
The Cowboys returned to the football field on Monday night (Nov.17th) following their bye week and defeated the L.A Raiders (33 – 16). Our continued prayers and condolences go out to Marshawn Kneeland’s family and his loved ones on and off the field.
