Mike Mora, photographer and husband to singer, chef, and author Kelis has died from stomach cancer. Mora announced five months ago on his social media that he received the heartbreaking news from doctors that he had stage four cancer and wasn’t fully knowledgeable of what it all meant when he was first admitted to UCLA hospital. What he thought was an ulcer causing his loss of appetite turned into something entirely worse than he’d ever imagine just one month later.
” The story continues…So the morning of my last UCLA hospital stay, doctors came in my room and gave me the most horrifying, unexpected news.. I did not understand the language written on this paper. All I knew from the look on their faces was that it wasn’t a good diagnosis. It was the worst diagnosis. And they were scared for me. I asked how they were going to help me. They said they couldn’t do anything else for me. I had to search on my (condition) for some sort of solution.. Scary days. Love You Kelis ” … – he wrote (Oct.14th 2021)
Kelis often spoke so highly of her husband whom she married in 2014 and shares two biological children along with their son Knight from her previous marriage to rapper Nas. In 2017 Kelis leveled up and sold her luxurious Glendale California home for a more self-sustaining lifestyle that would hold a better promise for her family and future legacy.
The couple purchased a few acres of land and welcomed fans and friends into their bounty full farm world in Temecula, California in 2020; showing us what it is to live, cultivate, delight, and survive in mother’s nature.
MShowing great optimism and hope of beating the odds, Mike (the photographer) shared his news with us and said…
” I am posting this, after so much thought. Not because I want people to feel bad or sorry for me and my family. I am posting this because life is full of the most unexpected situations, he wrote. I never thought this could happen to me. I’m just just 36, with three kiddos, and a wife that loves me. I want to be able to help those that might experience something, maybe, and hopefully by showing that it’s possible to make it through “. – Mike Mora
A rep of Kelis management confirmed Mike’s sudden passing earlier this week and the family has asked the public for privacy in their time of bereavement. The Plum tribe sends our deepest condolences, and respect and honor the life of Mike Mora who was a beam of light to his loved ones and others.
