Damn Gina……

The ‘Jane The Virgin’ star is back in the media headlines again and sadly its for the same problematic behavior that she apparently does NOT seem to be aware of until ‘black twitter’ and the ‘collective alike’ calls her out.

Earlier this week, Gina Rodriguez uploaded a video clip of her reciting the lyrics to one of her favorite songs ‘Ready Or Not’ by the ‘Fugees’ and uses the n-word. Interestingly, the n-word is used relatively once in the entire song as part of the closing bar of Lauryn Hill’s verse.

Of all the great ‘educational rap bars’ that Ms. Hill has giving us in her solo and group albums, Gina boastfully displays her arrogance and casually says ‘You Niggas Give Me Heebie – Jeebies’ on camera. You may need to re-read the previous line to understand that this was no homage to the music icon.

We can contend that everyone innately has their own perception of beliefs on different things. The same goes for discussions on important societal matters regarding: Culture, Colorism, Community, and Classism. Gina is no exception, she feels and believes what she chooses. However, in each of Gina’s controversial moments the actress seems to play ‘crying wolf’ including her responses to the inaccurate remarks she’s made about black women and community.

Gina, #sitthisoneout ……

Gina’s apologies come off as a mockery of the people she continually offends, including her recent one. Once a person begins and apology with ‘IF I Offended You’……..sentence that is usually followed by ‘Then, I’m Sorry’ (or vice versa) …. , walk away and do not engage! The apology is not sincere! Gina doesn’t understand why she CANNOT say the n-word, and that is why she couldn’t apologize for using the n-word because she felt, and feels privilege to use it.

Lets be honest here, there are many non-black persons who are singing, rapping, and saying the n-word freely in their private and safe spaces. I’ve witnessed this several times in the industry at music concerts in particular. The fans sing and rap along to the artists lyrics without restraint of using the n-word. The black collective is fully aware of this, yet we kindly ask that you ‘pretend’ like you don’t say the n-word when you’re in the presence of black persons.

If you’ve watched the video above, you now have a digital tutorial clip that gives insight as to why ‘the collective’ agrees that Gina has an intentional problematic behavior pattern. This behavior seems to be one that is being used to gain ‘public visibility‘ and ‘raise’ her entertainment salary.

One Love!
