In light of Donald Sterling’s RACISM Controversy, Grammy Award winner, The Dream unveils a lyric video allowing us ALL to reflect on ‘Whats Going In Our World’.
The song entitled “BLACK” shows images and videos of the oppression, injustices, and inequality of racism that has PLAGUED our world for DECADES.
To think, Donald Sterling, an 80 year-old [bigot jewish man who had ownership in an NBA franchise [which is filled more than 70% black men] not to mention the staff and mascot, had no REMORSE, or RESPONSE to his audio recordings when probed by the NBA commissioner, Adam Silver says much of how far removed we are from UNITY as a PEOPLE
As Dream puts it ‘I’m Feeling Real Black Right Now’ .
The Dream sings of black people’s constant outcry. Protests, Social Acceptance, Religion Divide, Consumerism, Classism, and the issue of race is addressed in the video. Dream sings:
The Oppression Of A Young Malcolm/
The Shot’s Rang Out Across The Balcony/
The Day We Lost A Dream/
Too Young To Sing Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On/
Since Then, Ain’t Been Alot Going On/
Enough Pain Can Make A Whole Race Bitter/
They say A Whole Lot Of Love, Can Heal Us/
Reminiscing Back When Hilfiger, Made Us Feel Like Niggers/
Sidebar: My only disagreement with the message of this song is that being black is not a FEELING its a REALITY of who we ARE. There’s no power button that we switch on or off when a Sterling Scandal appears.
RACE doesn’t disappear because one acquires WEALTH – even STERLING points that out. Majority of our world’s perceptional view of RACE is bias on the complexion of one’s skin – period. That has not changed YET – but it WILL – so says GOD. For as it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end.
Take a watch at the video and tell us what you think?
