Singer/ Songwriter, The Dream recently interviewed with Vlad TV to give his two cents on the state of R&B music. In his dream world, the dream said his ideal male group would be artists The Weekend, Trey Songz, Miguel, & Chris Brown. However, Dream says R&B is missing the “big voice”
” We’d be missing like one new big ass voice. It’s like where’s the big choice? No one really has that anymore. Like, that thing. Nobody has that Johnny Gill shit. Just go to church. It’s no go to church voice now if you really think about it. I’m looking for him. It’s hard to find.”
So what about R. Kelly, asks Vlad:
” R.Kelly wasn’t still purely like to go to church though. He was more reliant on tone. He has a great tone. What about K.Ci & JoJo of Jodeci – asks Vlad? KC & JoJo was the part in that group That’s what I’m saying though. Those big powerhouse things. They don’t really exist anymore. Maybe everybody stopped going to church and stopped getting whipping. Whippings usually create the great voice.”
As for the females, The Dream says Jennifer Hudson, and Beyonce are female powerhouses. ” There’s alot of voices over there [on the female side].”
