The 2013Black Girls Rock awards took place this past Saturday Oct.26 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. BGR founder Beverly Bond enlisted Tracey Ellis Ross, and Regina Hall to host the 4th annual award show for a second time. This years honorees included music icon Patti Labelle [Living Legend Award], hip hop pioneer Queen Latifah [Rock Star Award] Ameena Mathews [Cmmunity Activist Award] Venus William [Star Power Award], Ameena Mathews [Community Activist Award] ballet dancer Misty Copeland [Young, Gifted & Black Award], and civil rights activist Marian Wright Edelman [Social Humantiarian Award] BET will air the show on Sunday, Nov 3rd.
Black Girls Rock pays homage to those who have worked relentlessly to promote a positive image for women of color. It also brings attentions to a rising global movement that teaches girls to be their best selves, drawing even more supporters to help expand the Founder & CEO, Beverly Bond dynamic vision. Official sponsors of BLACK GIRLS ROCK! 2013 include ‘My Black is Beautiful’, ‘CoverGirl‘, ‘Chevrolet‘ and ‘Pantene‘.
