Drake’s has been making several stops in promotion of his new album “Nothing Was The Same“. The rapper stopped by the Ellen Degeneres show and later the Jay Leno show this week where he confirmed to dating Rihanna a few years back while setting the record straight on false rumored relationships which included Tyra Banks, Kim Kardashian, and Kat Dennings. Drake is single and ready to mingle.
Yesterday, Drake stopped by the Angie Martinez show where he talked about his rumored estranged relationship with his label mate and member Young Money/ Cash Money, the inspiration behind the famous YOLO term, the controversy surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control‘ verse and more. Take a look at a few of the excerpts below:
On The YOLO phenom:
” Of course. It got huge. It became one of those things that everyone was like: enough now. But that was the kind of thing that drew me to it. I heard it and I was like it was more than just an adlib. Originally it was just a Rick Ross ad lib on the Take Care” track. He was like Yolo – You only live one and I was like Wow that should be a song not just the tail end of an outro. So I called him and I said I got a song out of that ad lib that you gave me. I’ve said that several times but people keep giving me the credit so I’m not mad. “
On His Current Relationship With YMCMB:
“I mean its not about being estranged. I think I’ve become my own man and my own entity, and I’ve formed OVO and I’ve never been the guy that was just hanging around for the sake of be hanging around. I think its become more evident how much I’m not around now because of how busy I’ve gotten. I support Young Money Cash Money everywhere I go. talk to Stunner almost every day and Wayne’s a busy guy but when we see each other and we connect it’s all love..
On Where The Rumor Started:
” I think I don’t give people enough to talk about so…… I think stories have to be created out of thin air sometimes and and I think that’s one of those things. “
On Kendrick Lamar’s Control Verse:
” It just wasn’t real to me. I saw him after that and it was all love so for me it was like: Was That Real or For The People?. At the same time let it be real because those were harsh words. Coming from that situation it was unexpected. It’s sort of like working your way up and building relationships. I wouldn’t expect you to throw away all of your relationships for the sake of being the talk of the internet for 10 ten days… People don’t even care about it no more. I don’t know if it was worth it. “
On Whether He’s Seeking To Get Into A Rap Battle Anytime Soon:
” You know the people I expected to call me out haven’t so….I’m not waiting for it but I’m ready for it. “
