Oh Lawd!
Following her spectacular performance at the Philadephia ‘Made In America‘ Festival, Beyonce and family [Blue Ivy included] were spotted in Ibiza, Spain for a family vacation and to celebrate Beyonce’s birthday [Sept. 4th]. However, the Carters became the center of the discussion after photos of Blue Ivy and Beyonce surfaced the web aboarding a yacht. According to critics, Blue Ivy hair is ‘untamed’ and not of the European standard [or as we say in the urban community “snatched” or slick back].
Sidebar: What bothers me the most about this is that black women’s hair is always under the microscope. If our hair is wore in a natural style [ie: in afro or curly were chastized for being too afrocentric, if its chemically permed, weaved or “slick back” even in a simple updo – its considered ‘tamed’ and beautiful.
What has happened to our cultural pride? To think that others [including those of our very own heritage] would be un-supportive of a black woman’s natural beauty [especially since that is the way our hair GROWS out of our hair] puzzles me!
Here’s a few comments that has spawned this morning on twitter:
I mean really? What relevance does Blue Ivy hair play in this so called “New World Order”? SMH!
I’m sure Beyonce is used to these negative comments by now; I mean folks have been criticizing her since the birth of Blue Ivy, and her sister, Solange continues to be under frequent attack for sporting her afro hair.
My best advice to all of those that have an issue with Blue Ivy’s hair and or natural hair – please look the other way because its not going ANYWHERE nor will it be FROWNED UPON simply because the MASSES disapproves!
