Nicki Minaj is featured in the latest VOGUE magazine where she talks about her admiration of Marilyn Monroe way before her music career skyrocketed, her high priced spending habit and her desire to be a role model to young girls or as she would said ‘little barbz’.
Here’s a few excerpts:
On her discovery of fashion:
“I was dressing in Tommy Hilfiger baggy shirts and Boss jeans, but then I met a person who dressed like a tiny lady—pantsuits, heels, lots of makeup. I thought she was larger than life. She once did my makeup—I had never seen myself made up before. I didn’t want to wash it off; I felt like I had one day to live this fantasy of being a glamour girl.”
On other career interest she desired prior to music:
“A huge part of me wanted to be a lawyer! I would do a really good job as a prosecutor.”
On her former spending habit:
“At one time I spent 50,000 on shoes and bag alone. “Giuseppe, Versace, YSL, and Fendi shoes,” she reveals. “I bought tons of Vuitton bags. When you’re a young girl from Queens, you’re going to stock up on those bags.”
And, lastly her message for young barbz:
“They hang on to my every word, so I tell them to go to school, be ambitious… the worst position is to be financially dependent on a man.”
Nicki’s photoshoot was taken by none other than famed photographer Steven Klein. Magazine is out in stores now.
