On Wednesday, Dec.18th, New York City officials along with Mayor Bloomberg unveiled the Miles Davis Way street on West 77th street on the Upper West Side where legendary jazz musician Miles Davis resided. This is a high honor for Davis legacy as he is considered one of the most influential musicians in the the 20th century.
Davis longtime neighbor Shirley Zafirau is responsible for getting the street name change. Davis passed away in 1991 at age 65 and Shirley fought a long battle with city officials to get Davis rightful recognition on the very street where he lived and created hit songs, and she has finally won.
The news comes just a few weeks after the announcement of Miles Davis biopic film: “Kill The Trumpet Player”, to be played by actor, Don Cheadle. This will be a good movie!
