A heartbreaking tragedy stuns an entire family and community as news story broke of Ex- Lieutenant Virginia Governor, Justin Fairfax and his wife Dr. Cerina Fairfax. Police received call from the one of couple’s children; their son on Thursday night April 17th, 2026 of an alleged domestic assault occurring within the home says Fairfax County Police Chief –Kevin Davis.
Their son initially assumed his mother was stabbed multiple times from their father after he and his sister went off to bed to prep for school the following day. Intuition led to their son to awaken and check up on his mother whom he found with ‘multiple holes near her heart’ just moments before making the frantic 911 call .
When police arrived at the couple’s residence in Annandale, Virginia just shortly after midnight they found a man and woman dead inside the home. Justin shot his wife multiple times in the basement of their home before making his way upstairs to their master bedroom where he killed himself from single gun shot wound to the head with the same firearm.
The shooting stems from what appeared to be an ongoing and messy divorce between Justin and Cerina. In January of this year, Justin made a false report to police that his wife had assaulted him. The case findings did not end up in Justin’s favor because what Justin was not aware is that Cerina had installed numerous video camera’s inside the couple’s home following their decision to divorce and for her personal protection.
Both Justin and Cerina were Duke University graduates with notable credibility in their community. Dr. Cerina Fairfax was a dentist, community lead figure, and exemplary mother to her children. Cerina graduated from Duke in 1999 before taking up her ‘doctorate in dental surgery’ from Virginia Common Wealth University.
The couple’s choosing to live in the same residence until the divorce proceedings were finalized was reportedly at Cerina’s advisement as show of commitment to her family and Justin. Dr. Cerina Fairfax had a thriving family dentist practice who was beloved by many.
Justin Fairfax; the once revered Democrat and lieutenant governor showed great promise as a lead figure and politician with a huge support backing from his collegiate peers and community members in which he served proudly. But, things seem to take a wrong turn for Justin once he stepped into the political arena. Justin received his undergraduate from Duke in 2000 before obtaining his ‘law degree’ at Columbia University in 2005. His accolades scored him a role as one of the Board Of Trustees at Duke University.
In February 2019 , sexual assault claims came forward from two women against Justin FairFax. Both women had made their claims public so we’ll share the backstory. Scripps College professor, Vanessa Tyson reported that Justin assaulted her in 2004 at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. Justin Fairfax was working with US-Senator, John Edwards at the time. The second claim was from a former Duke University student, Meredith Watson who claimed Fairfax raped her when they were undergraduates in 2000. No criminal charges were ever filed as Justin proclaimed that both encounters were consensual.
While Justin beat the allegations, his public image and career reputation was quickly tarnishing. Justin Fairfax became irreverent and despised, and he began experiencing great financial woes which put Cerina at the helm of the family and their community popularity. Even with a reset, Justin created a law practice from the couple’s home but the only client support he saw was arriving for his wife Dr Cerina family dentist practice .
It is rumored that these boiling tensions, financial setbacks, and an outcry to clear his name of his past allegations is what led Justin Fairfax to dive further into alcohol addiction, anger and resentment. Rather than speaking up and seeking help for his mental instability and rumored depression, Justin Fairfax sought a violent decision that ultimately destroyed his entire family.
