Will.I.Am Rings The Alarm In Oprah’s Super Soul Interview!

Oh, how I love an intelligent conversation!

Oprah’s ‘Super Soul’ on OWN network is seemingly one of her best bodies of work. The dialogues are more interesting, insightful, and more in depth of knowledge. Earlier today, Oprah sat down with ‘Will.I.Am’ for a live interview session on facebook. Some of you may know him as the leading member of the popular group; Black Eyed Peas but he’s so much more. The grammy award winning- now TECH giant has made more leaps and bounds with his philanthropy works and tech-start up companies for close to a decade now.

A believer that each one, teaches one, Will.I.Am drops some intellectual gems during his conversation with Oprah. One of the biggest takeaways I got from this interview is our call to action. How are we (as a people) applying ourselves to the change we want to see in our communities given the digital age and technology shift that is occurring and rapidly unfolding in front of us?

” I tell my kids: It’s Already Happening Whether You Like Or Not, So What Are You Going To Do? “……

” It Feels Like A Bunch Of Kids Running Around And Your Like – Where’s The Parents?…, There’s No More Mannerisms It Seems. “

Will.I.Am says his love for music and the ability to make music is never-ending, but his desire to ‘just be’ in the music business has changed when he began his philanthropy works.  One cultural shift was adopting the school that he went to as an adolescent which he serves on the board and funds program initiatives that gives students the ‘access’ to more advanced and compatible opportunities to that of their suburban peers.

” There’s So Many Celebrities That Come From Inner Cities , And They Can Do What I Did And Adopt A School . I Adopted A School That Was Adjacent To The Neighborhood I Grew Up  In. It’s About 1.2 Million Dollars Per Year To Finance. “

” There’s People Rapping About Spending Money And Wasting It. Imagine If Our Communities Were Rapping About Changing The Neighborhoods. That Would Be Awesome! Not Saying I Can’t Wait To Get Up Out Of The Hood. How About – I Can’t Wait To Change The Hood.  Imagine That Being The Path Forward. It Would Be Amazing! “
