SZA ” GARDEN: Say It Like That ” Visuals

Solana SZA Rowe ‘Ctrl’ album is still in heavy rotation on my playlist and now the five-time grammy nominee has blessed us with new heavenly visuals from one my favorite tracks on the album: ‘Say It Like That’.

A nod to the biblical parable of man and woman companionship, SZA is the virtuous ‘eve’ in the garden of heaven with Donald Glover– who plays Adam. Overzealous of Adam, SZA is doubtful and feels incapable of being loved ‘freely’ for who she is.

Need you for the old me
Need you for my sanity
Need you to remind me where I come from
Can you remind me of my gravity?
Ground me when I’m
tumblin’,
spiralin’, plummetin’
down to Earth

You keep me down to Earth

Who is to blame? In a world of societal pressures where (now) plastic beauty has more value than natural beauty, many young girls and women find themselves feeling unworthy, and undeserving of love from another unless they’re competing in the same league of the ‘women idols’ that are publicly notarized.

SZA pens her sentiments on this record; a candid tale of her relationship experiences prior and post her music success and weight loss. In ‘Garden’ she nails it.  SZA’s mother emerges as ‘Mother Nature’ as the video ends and imparts some wisdom onto her; affirming her virtues and value (always) as a woman (even) in relationships.
