Donald Glover is becoming a MOGUL! There are many people, artists, musicians, actors and the alike aspiring to reach the pinnacle of their talents, and there are some who manage to do so by simply unleashing their creative force. Donald Glover (a.k by his stage name) Childish Gambino is one of them!
A proven track record of success in both his music, tv hit series – Atlanta, and acting talent in some of hollywood’s biggest box office films (ie: The Martian, Spider Man, and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story) Glover’s journey thus far is truly an inspiring tale to watch.
Over the weekend, Glover appeared on SNL to debut some new music and visuals that has grabbed our attention yet again to really digest what is happening in modern day U.S.A. If you’ve watched ‘Atlanta’ then your half way to decoding Glover’s message in the newly debut ‘This Is America’ video.
Atlanta gives audience a 360 visual of the life, struggle, an experience of an upcoming artist who is trying to find the balance in both his real life and street life. When its all said done – it boils down to the CHOICES one makes. Whether your for or against something; your making a choice. Staying neutral by ‘keeping silent’ and ‘playing it safe’ – your making a choice. We’re ALL making choices!
“Black Man, Black Man… Get Your Money… Black Man, Black Man… Get Your Money… Black Man, Black Man.. Get Your Money… Black Man, Black Man… GET DOWN ”
The political climate of America now, has many on edge. The fear and uncertainty of what is to come is more prevalent than ever and similar to the Great Depression era. There is also an ‘awakening of the minds’ emerging amongst the lost sheep’s that breeds that very same fear and uncertainty of the future of America and human race.
” It’s Hard To Believe TRUTH, When Your Mind Is Cluttered With FALSE Stories And Confusion”
In the #ThisisAmerica video, Glover and director, Hiro Murai intelligently depicts this reality in the four-minute video. Gun violence, domestic terrorism, suicide, police brutality, shitty politics, media propaganda, and masking illusion tactics is served on one platter.
The gruesome reality of America is being showcased right in front of our eyes; yet many of us are CHOOSING to turn a blind eye as the visuals explain. As seen in the above photo – America cares more about guns, than the execution of black bodies. Another reminder is shown in another scene of Glover shooting an all-black church choir; a reference to the 2015 Charleston church massacre.
Many will choose to miss the message because we’d rather talk and glare in amazement of a shirtless Glover doing today’s trendy dance moves, than give our time and service to more pressing matters (as shown in the background actions of the video). Glover offers up his creative brilliance illustrating how ‘black joy’ and ‘black terror’ co-exists in America and Glover showcases himself as the representation of ‘the masking illusion tactic’ and ‘truth’.
#ThisisAmerica……….
He is playing the role of the Jim Crow Minstrel, referencing rap artists of today. Look at how he stands when he shoots the guitarist, the crazy eyes, untrustworthy smile, down to the yellow shoes on his feet. GENIUS.#ThisIsAmerica #ChildishGambino pic.twitter.com/hAOrZ8lbWN
