Kiera Please Gives Us 28 Days Of Cosplay For National Women’s Month!

Thanks to my daughter Jalei-K I was introduced to this talented beauty who goes by the name @KieraPlease!  A fanatic of paintings, drawings, and cartoons, Jalei was doing her Saturday per usual afternoon scroll through on my insta explore page when she noticed T-zipporah from Disney’s ” The Prince Of Egypt ” film.

Jalei: Mom look its T-Zipporah!

Me: Who is that?

Jalei: This is the real girl who is in the Prince Of Egypt movie?

Me: Zooms in on picture and reply: No baby, that’s a girl dressing up like her

Jalei: No she is an actress Mom, and she was other movies too, look! (she begins to show me her pic collages from her profile page).

I was certain that we would be onto singing old school tunes from music playlist and watching  youtube videos as I began to detangle her hair – but boy was I wrong! A simple inquiry turned into a beautiful dialogue (between mommy and daughter) about women cartoon characters who were equally intelligent, beautiful and powerful heroines.

I reflected on my childhood days and the blessing of seeing cartoon heroines and female leads, and the lack thereof now. In celebration and honor of National Women’s History month this year, Kiera Please paid tribute to some of our favorite and memorable heroines with “28 days of Cosplay”.

The lesson here is (parents),  don’t be so quick to hush your children when they’re talking to you about something you may find to be ‘silly’ or  ‘unworthy chat’. Tune in every now and then.  I was educated by my 1o-year old on a Saturday afternoon in March.

As a parent, I re-learned how cartoons today shape our children’s perspective. I was happy to share my thoughts on cartoons today vs. those in my childhood days with my daughter, but this discussion would not have occurred if she didn’t stumble upon KieraPlease.

To Kiera: Keep Shining Your Light and Continue to Inspire Us!
