This summer, we witnessed the evolution of Kelly Rowland and director Frank Gatson new girl group ‘June’s Diary’ on BET ‘Chasing Destiny’ show. The television docu-series showed took us on a journey from start to finish on what it actually takes to be an ‘star’ in the music industry. Ashly Williams, Brienna DeVlugt, Gabrielle Carreiro, Kristal Lyndriette, and Shyann Roberts were the finalist that would be ultimately become June’s Dairy .
Harkening back to the beloved era when TLC, En Vogue, Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child reigned supreme, June’s Diary embodies the revival of sisterhood in a time when girl groups are scarce. The limelight is ablaze with solo artists, but the women of June’s Diary believe in camaraderie.
The resonant voices and infectious hooks of coupled with hr group’s searing, rubbery, R&B bounce just feels good. They revive the luring and fun qualities of the 90’s and early 00’s R&B while also creating the new wave genre. Finding the inspiration in everything from gospel to hip hop and trap, June’s Diary pay homage to genre’s they love while making each track their own.
JD’s lead single L.A.N.C.E has been well received since it summer debut but the buzz in the industry is that that their live vocals are definitely a must see. June’s Dairy kicked off their mini-tour on Sept. 27th in Philadelphia, PA, and fans will get first hand exclusive tracks from their debut album.
