Last month, the first lady made two surprise visits to elementary schools in the D.C. neighborhood. Aside from the total shock that hit the students when FLOTUS walked in their classrooms, the students were happily engaged with the first lady as they talked about their school garden initiative and the things they’ve learned. Flotus expressed the importance of gardening, eating fresh fruits and vegetables in their daily meals.

Michelle began this campaign back in 2010 in efforts to combat childhood obesity. Congress Flotus sought to bring new legislation that would allow healthier school lunches in public schools. Congress fought back on the issue, and advised that the 4.5 million dollar budget be taken from the food stamp budget so Flotus sought a different route to bring awareness and new legislation that would allow for healthier school lunches in public schools through her ‘Let’s Move’ campaign .

Now, in it sixth year, childhood obesity has dropped and ‘Let Move’ is no longer a simple hashtag.
