Aside from the incredible performances from American Idol contestants last night, season one winner Kelly Clarkson stole the night with an emotional finale performance of her new single ‘Piece By Piece’ that left the audience, judges and myself in tears. ‘The Was So Much More Than A Song’, as one commentator wrote. Kelly tackled an issue that still plagues so many youths; Absent Fathers.
Clarkson wrote the song after the birth of her daughter ‘River’ with husband, Brandon Blackstock. How could someone walk away from that?, the singer told Glamour. Clarkson says she is not sure what her father went through as a child that led him to later abandon her as a child but becoming her mother has made her want to be much more ‘present’ in her family.
On the track she sings:
