” ‘Rise Up’ is just a song about about any type of relationship. Its actually about how I look at everyone; and saying that we’re all brothers and sisters and we are all a body of work; working together. ”

Andra Day reminds us why ‘R&B Jazz Soul’ music can never grow old. I was first introduced to the California native during my visit to Atlanta, Georgia this past summer. My mother and I were leaving an hibatchi restaurant and I offered to drive us back home.  My New York attitude kicked in quickly and I told my mother I needed to hear some music tunes; and my mother suggested I take a listen to this new song by an artist that she recently discovered online and advised me to put her on my site.

I took a listen, and all I remember saying was – WHO IS THAT?  My mother’s response was -umm Andrea Day [in her patoi language].  There was something unique and beautiful about her sound, yet familiar to me. It reminded me of the goosebumps I got when I first heard the late Amy Winehouse.

I returned to New York two weeks later and got swept into mommy land as school had begun on the east coast and my attention was solely engulfed in the lives of my sugarplums for the next two months . Now, that I’ve adjusted to my normal routine, I’ve become more acquainted with some of the rising artists and I finally digested Andra’s ‘Cheers To Fall’ album and its soul touching!

Honestly,  Andra had me at the first single ‘Rise Up’!  I mean, What’s not to love about this song. The drums, and melody is perfectly on point; not to mention Andra’s amazing vocals that is simply breathtaking, but the entire album is one for the ages.

” So ‘Rise Up’ is really abut saying that one piece isn’t better than the other . So when this is struggling then I’m going to lift up  and be that. If your in pain then I’m going through the pain with you. If your celebrating, then I’m celebrating with you. ”

The album encompasses the heartache and heartbreak that Andra experienced in previous relationships. ‘Forever Mine’, ‘Gold’, and ‘Rearview’ are relatable tracks for those of us who have loved and or lost their heart along their love journey.’ Other personal favorites of mine are ‘Mistakes’ ‘Red Flags’ and ‘Honey or Fire’ .

Many are calling Andra Day a beautiful fuse of Eartha Kitt, Amy Winehouse, Billy Holiday and Adele and we concur.

‘Cheers To The Fall’ is #PurchaseWorthy!
