‘Just Got Paid’ Singer, Johnny Kemp Found Dead In Montego Bay Ocean!

Known for his classic 80’s hit song ‘Just Got Paid’, Johnny Kemp died on Thursday [April 16th] at age 55. The Bahamian singer’s body was reportedly found in floating in the water of Montego Bay, Jamaica. The cause cause or exact date of death has not yet been determined. Kemp was scheduled to be on the Tom Joyner Foundation – hosted annual Fantastic Voyage cruise as a performer when his body was found. According to news outlets, Kemp never boarded the ship.

‘Just Got Paid’ was not just anthem for 80’s and 90’s baby bloomers, it’s a classic global record that continues to reign supreme in the music realm and nightclubs. No matter the age, if your an employee on these mean labor streets, and you received a pay check on a Friday date, and you headed to the club, then you have either sung and or danced to this track at least one time in your life.

Kemp migrated to New York from the Bahamas in 1979 with a music group band entitled ‘Kinky Fox’ . Kemp was signed to Columbia Records and worked with Teddy Riley and Keith Sweat. Sweat initially passed on the ‘Just Got Paid’ record and Kemp took the track, added his own lyrics and melody and a hit was born. ‘Just Got Paid’ nabbed the #10 spot on the Billboard Hot 100
