Whew child, Giuliana got her panties rolled in a bunch on this one!
The ‘E’ Correspondent whose known for her fashion expertise and great commentary crossed one too many lines during her recent talk segment on ‘Fashion Police’. While discussing the Oscars red carpet ‘hit’ or ‘misses’ , Rancic issued ignorant remarks about Zendaya’s hair. It Reminds Of ‘Patchouli Oil’ or ‘Weed’ – said Rancic.
Well, clearly someone is disgusted by ‘dreadlocks’, not to mention the added facial expressions that too spoke to her dislike of Zendaya’s hairstyle.
Rancic received her own Karma by the #Zendayadefense squad and countless others who took to social media to express their distaste of Rancic’s comments.
As a former locafella, I was offended by Rancic’s comments. Now, I am all for people being entitled to their own opinion [umm, I have a blog in which I issue my opinion frequently], but blatant disrespect towards a person, or ones culture is totally off limits.
Clearly, Rancic did not remember the sentence following the famous cliche. ‘We Can Agree To Disagree, But We Do So With Respect Always’. Rancic could’ve of simply said: “I really didn’t like this particular hairstyle with her vivienne westwood gown”. But, she went for the jugular instead and issued a stereotypical attack on a ‘group of people’ and culture [which to her and others including black folks who share the same sentiments] that dreadlocks is ‘unacceptable’ in Hollywood and in society.
That’s Where Rancic Got It Wrong!
This was a poor choice of words on Rancic’s part. Zendaya reminded Rancic that the notion that one’s hair [style] define’s or guarantee them success in society standards of beauty has expired. Take a read below:
Following the huge backlash, Rancic has issued a formal public apology.
” I want to apologize for a comment that I made on Fashion Police about Zendaya’s hair. As you know Fashion Police is a show that pokes fun at celebrities in good spirit. But I do understand that something that I said last night, crossed the line.
Now I just want everybody to know that I didn’t intend to hurt anybody but I’ve learned that its not my intent that matters, its the result, and the result is that people are offended included Zendaya, and that is not okay.
Therefore I want to say to Zendaya and anybody else out there that I’ve hurt that I am so so sincerely sorry. This really has been a learning experience for me I’ve learned alot today. This incident has taught to me be alot more aware of cliche’s and stereotypes and the damage it can do and that I am responsible to not perpetuate them any further. “
In light of this public controversy, Fashion Police co-host Kelly Osbourne has threatened to quit the show.
One Love PLUM’s!
