New York City police officer, Peter Liang will face criminal charges in the shooting death of 28-year old Akai Gurley.

Gurley was shot in the stairwell of Brooklyn, NY back in November 2014. At the time, the New York City Police Department called the shooting an accident. The NYPD explained that Liang was holding his weapon in the same hand he was using to open the door, and the gun went off as a result.

The rookie cop was on the police for less than year, and reportedly called his union rep instead of calling for help.
