Jazmine Sullivan may have taken a ‘temporary’ hiatus from the music scene but her vocals is a ‘permanent’ gift. In a newly released youtube video, the singer performs a live vocal of Whitney Houston classic ‘I Have Nothing’ and she nailed it.
The video went viral on Jan. 5th, and of course there were mixed opinions [mostly good] . I think it’s the same ole argument whenever an artist takes on a record from a music legend [ie. Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Celine, etc].
Some music fans seem to prefer to hear a ‘replica’ of the original track which requires the artist to hit the exact key signature notes as the first musician who sung the record. Now, [god forbid] the artist takes a different spin on a classic record while singing on ‘key’ without cracking a note throughout the entire; their talent is discredited.
In this case, I thought Jazmin did a beautiful job, but you can grasp your own opinion. Let’s remember this is the woman who delivered the very same great vocals to her own classic hit songs ‘I Bust Your Windows’ , ‘Lions Tigers & Bears’,…. H E L L O !

Looks like we need a ‘people’ campaign to get talented underrated artist heard and not shelved from the popular music that’s trendy but won’t stand the test of time.
