7 [Red Flags] From Janay Rice & Ray Rice Interview With Matt Lauer

Janay Rice finally broke her silence in an exclusive interview with NBC correspondent, Matt Lauer  of the ‘Today’ show this week.  Janay was also joined by her mother, Candy  Palmer, and Ray Rice later appears to speak publicly.

Janay says she was given a generic script of what to say during the initial press conference where she expressed that she was deeply regretful for the role that she played during in the fight between her and Ray Rice.  Janay was slammed in the media for defending Rice [her then fiancee’] during the couple’s first press conference, and says she was instructed on what to say.

“I was basically doing what I was told “ says Janay.

” I apologize for the part that I took in this,… and umm, I apologize because this conference was one that the Ravens put together  situation. “….. First I was willing to do anything to help the situation…..

Help the way we looked in the media, his image, obviously his career, and they [the NFL commission] told us that we has to do the press conference a week earlier,  and I was fine with it that week that we would do the press conference… they didn’t give us a written statement but  they basically gave us a general script.

I saw many red flags in this interview from Janay and her mother?

Red Flag #1 – Janay openly admits that she was willing to do anything to reconcile the couple’s public image, and Rice career while blaming herself for her actions, and agreeing that what occurred was wrong? Huh? I’m sorry to be the one to issue the truth serum but this is the first signs and actions of a domestic violence victim.

Red Flag #2  Janay’s mother, Candy Palmer  has full rights to  support her daughter, but she  seemed to add more  add more fuel to’ fire’ with her denial statements. Candy  affirms that Janay is not one who comes from an abusive family, and thus she doesn’t believe her child would even remain in abusive relationship that was constant in abuse.

Candy also tells Lauer that she too believes that Ray knocking her daughter out with a single punch and dragging from an elevator during the couple’s anniversary weekend celebration was a one time deal.

Not sure what rock Candy and Janay thinks the public is living under, but a ‘subtle lie’ won’t cut it.  Janay and Ray have been together for seven years and I’m  it is very hard for me to believe that no physical altercation has ever occurred between the two other than the shouting and arguments. Sorry! Mama Rice also says she is confident that there will be NOT be a next time.

That maybe so! Rice has an opportunity to get back into the NFL. Camera’s are everywhere these days and there’s no telling who may be watching and what the consequences maybe if something else occurs. This is Ray’s second chance, there’s literally no room for errors.

Sidebar: I’ve personally encountered young women who have been domestically abused and most of their personal testimonies have one common denominator, the abuse occurred multiple times and was NEVER a one time thing.

Red Flag # 3  – Janay says she and Ray are happy, and if nothing else, the leaked video brought attention to ‘domestic violence’ however, she does not fit into the the category of women who have suffered and or survived ‘domestic violence’ . Janay says she feels that her union with Ray was ordained by God.

I think we can all agree that everyone makes mistakes and deserves a second chance , but there’s much covering up here. Janay’s answers seemed rehearsed, and the big shocker of it all was her denial of the truth [yet again].

Red Flag # 4 and 5:  Janay says she forgave Rice the next day, and did not think twice about marrying him after the incident.  Another sign from one who has suffered abuse.  Janay is once again affirming that she intended to continue her relationship with Rice despite the incident.

Red Flag #6  Repeatedly blaming herself. ” I didn’t think it was completely wrong for apologizing. “Not to take away from what happened  but I got arrested too that night so I did something wrong too. “ To me, this interprets that Janay may have strike the first blow and spit at Ray [as the rumors suggest]  before Ray issued the final blow.

But did Janay watch the video? Better yet, did she ever replay the end of the audio video, where she can been seen and heard going off at Ray in front of hotel security when she’s pulled up from the floor. Janay shouts at Ray saying: ‘I’m the mother of the child, how could you hit me like that .” Hmm!

Red Flag # 7  Janay admits to  playing the ‘protector role’ in the relationship  and not a victim of abuse.  ” I’ve always protected him. I protected him from people with motives and from people who wanted to take an advantage of him.”  Janay is either passionately in love and in marital bliss with Ray, and sees herself with no other, and or she’s is acting for the camera’s to help secure Ray acceptance from another NFL team following his recent appeal win and restore the family riches which they’ve grew accustomed to.

Ray Rice also spoke about his regret for not apologizing to Janay during the press conference although he issued one to the Baltimore Ravens fans.  In a nutshell, Rice says he made a ‘horrendous mistake’.  “She’s an angel, and can do no wrong “ says Rice while taking full responsibility for his actions.

Rice says marriage counciling has helped his  relationship and whether he ever plays in the NFL or not he will remain with Janay and make an honest woman out of her.

Let’s Face It, Ray and Janay does not need to adhere to the public demands. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I’m merely expressing my two cents. Given the leaked video, I feel as though a straight forward apology and full accountability of the entire ordeal would have been a direct ‘game changer’ .

I’d much rather heard the two say the following:

“We got into a fight, and we just took it too far. We are deeply ashamed and embarrassed by our actions  but we’ve made a decision to stay together. Since the incident , we’ve sought counciling, ,  we’ve been baptized, gotten married,  and it has been extremely helpful. We’ve forgiven each other and we have moved, and we are now asking the public to do the same.

Our deepest apologies to our family, friends, and fans who we’ve let down, and our deepest gratitude to those who’ve stood by us through this ordeal. ‘Domestic Violence’ is a real problem in our country  and we’ve accepted the parts that each of us has played. We plan to show the world that people make mistakes and can change for the better, included abused abused persons, and we intend to do.  This is our statement. Thank you.  “

Sadly, there’s too much at stake and much POLI-TICS involved. I’m sure a statement like that would crack the NFL flood gates [of hidden abuse cases] wide open. This ultimately damages the league’s reputation as a whole not to mention the amount of women that would come forward to expose their truth.

…..Not everything that glitters is gold.
