Violas Davis, shares a personal testimony on her upbringing during her homecoming at New York ‘s Julliard School where she attended back in the early 90’s. The actress has starred in box office hit films ‘Doubt’ alongside her Oscar winner Meryl Streep, and ‘The Help’.
When she reflects on her time at Julliard Art School Davis said she would always recall the moments when she didn’t get the acting part she’d audition for.
‘I cried many times at these lockers’, saying to myself ‘ didn’t I get that role.
Over the weekend the How To Get With Murder star was honored at the Variety Power of Women luncheon in Beverly Hills, California for her spectacular work in Hollywood thus far.
Davis was also honored for her humanitarian efforts. Davis joined the ‘Hunger Is’ campaign and hopes to bring awareness about the poverty crisis in our country. Having undergone some tumultuous times as a youth in South Carolina, Davis says she lived in shame for many years.
” I sacrificed my childhood for food, and grew up in immense shame.. People would look at me and say that girl is poor and I’d say I know, just give me food and I’ll be alright. “
Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, and Jane Fonda were also honored at the Variety Power Of Women luncheon.
