Jennifer Cramblett and her partner Amanda Zinkon is currently pursuing a wrongful donor lawsuit against a sperm bank who helped them conceive a bi-racial child. The couple underwent the in-vitro fertilization process at the Midwest Sperm Bank in Chicago and requested the sperm of a blue eye, white male individual.
Surprisingly, Midwest Sperm Bank sent her the vials of an African American sperm donor instead of the requested white American sperm donor, and the couple later learned during the second trimester stage [5 months] that their unborn would be bi-racial because of the donor switch.
The sperm bank records are handwritten so they mistaken her initial donor number #380 for #330 which was the donor of an African American male . However her public remarks about the wrongful insemination has many intense reactions.
” Jennifer says she’s Payton has hair typical of an African American girl and she’s worried about raising her child in rural, Union Town Ohio [a pre-dominant white town]
She went on to say that she must travel to a black neighborhood where she is not overtly welcome, and notes that certain family members are not accepting of her daughter Payton. One Uncle speaks openly and derisively about persons of color, said Jennifer. “
So Why Are They Pursuing A Lawsuit?
Midwest Sperm Bank has refunded the couple for the wrongful process. According to Jennifer when she learned of the news, she says: ” After a moment of panic, and oh lord everything is happening so quickly. I knew I had this child in my stomach. “
Jennifer also alleges in the lawsuit that she grew up with stereotypical attitudes towards non-whites, the lawsuits states, and did not know African Americans until she attended the college at the University of Akron…. and that’s where the problem lies in my book?
To think that this beautiful child will have to grow up learning that she was wrongfully conceived , brought up in a town and culture of people that will despise and discriminate against her because of her BLACK race, and eventually learn that her parents filed a lawsuit as a final result for monetary compensation of her ‘wrongful’ birth. SMH!
According to the lawsuit, Therapists have recommended that Cramblett, Zinkon and Payton [who is now 2 years old] move to a more racially diverse community with good schools. I agree!
