Omar Epps stopped by the Sway Morning Show this week to discuss his new role on ABC’s hit new show ‘Ressurection’ [Sundays at 9pm est] . The season actor has a lengthy resume and has starred in many classical urban films like ‘Juice’ ‘Higher Learning’, ‘Love & Basketball’ ‘In Too Deep’ ‘The Wood‘ and more. Epps later landed a re-occurring lead role on ABC’s ‘House’ show.

On Taking On This New Role:

” I had just came off from doing House , and that was eight years so I took some time . And then I went and I looked out about 30-40 tv and film; some of which are on television right now and for me ‘Ressurection’ stood out the same way ‘House’ stuck out.”

” It’s more about the challenge and it NOT  “oh it’s going to be a hit show” but I felt connected to the material on a creative level because  feel like with this show it’s more UNIVERSAL. It don’t matter where you come from, your ethnicity or whatever, LIFE is the balance that we all connect to because we’ve all dealt with LOSS and the rest is history.”

On Taking Roles For A Paycheck:

” I probably done the check thing twice. I come from a different; the Spike Lee era where I saw black faces no screen, ‘Do The Right Thing’ , that whole era of film was the thing that inspired me, and I wanted to a part of the next wave of that. Now if your actor and your not creating the job, you have to wait on a job and with so little opportunities….”

” I was fortunate to come from a time where a lot of black films were being made so if your a young black now you don’t have many choices but at the end of the day I do it for the LOVE and not for a check.”

Will there be a Love & Basketball [Part 2] ? Plus, Epps gets quizzed on his medical skills.  Take a listen to the full interview below:
