The passing of actor, Robin Williams has touched the hearts of many people [both fans and others] across the globe. When the news broke on August 11th, fans, musicians, actors of all trades, film producers, directors and the alike sent out their condolences, and paid tribute by telling their fondest moments of Williams.
” Williams was found dead inside his home in Paradise Cay, Tiburon, California by his personal assistant. Police authorities are reporting that the cause of death was “asphyxia” due to hanging. A toxicology report has be ordered and will take a few weeks says, authorities. Robin was 63 years old. “
From his famous blockbuster films ‘PopEye’, ‘Mrs. Doubtfie’, ‘Jumanji’, ‘Happy Feet’, ‘Good Will Hunting’ and more, Williams was one of hollywood’s most talented and respected actors who instantly lit up the room where ever he went. Sadly, his long life battle with depression and alcohol took
Roots drummer, Quest Love shared a story of his first encounter with Williams along with a photo caption of Williams in the television hit series ‘Mork & Mindy’. Quest revisits the time he met Williams at the 2001 Grammy Awards ceremony. Quest says Williams got into the elevator with the Roots and named checked all of us.
” Questlove says the band had to ride the elevator to the backstage area and they all piled inside. “When suddenly this voice just said ‘questlove…..black thought….rahzel….the roots from Philadelphia!!!!’ That’s right you walked on this elevator saying to yourself ‘ain’t no way this old white dude knows my entire history and discography’….we laughed so hard. That NEVER happened to [us] before,” he wrote. “
“A legend acknowledged us and really knew who we were (his son put him on to us) man it was a small 2 min moment in real life but that meant the world to me at the time,” Questlove wrote. “Everytime I saw him afterwards he tried to top his trivia knowledge on all things Roots associated. Simply because he knew that meant everything to me. May his family find peace at this sad time. I will miss Robin Williams. #RIP.”
Quest went on to say:
“I know y’all think I do this false modesty/T Swift ‘gee shucks’ thing to the hilt,” Questlove wrote. “But yeah sometimes when you put 20 hour days in you do think it’s for naught and that it goes thankless. Grammy time is somewhat of a dark time simply because you just walk around asking yourself is it worth it or not: all the sweat and blood. I just felt like (despite winning grammy the year before) no one really cares all that much for us except for a select few. Especially in that environment I’m which people treat you like minions until they discover what you can do for them…if you’re not a strong character you run the risk of letting it get to you.”
“Depression” is REAL folks and there are many people suffering from it. It took me a few days to write on the subject matter because I was truly at a lost for words. We have become such an isolated society and we don’t even know it. No one talks to one another anymore and or publicly due to fear, shame, embarassment, being called out, losing friends, or followers on social media for that matter.”
I was walking through the mall yesterday and notice the countless people that had their heads down buried in their phones as they walked to their designated store. I too am guilty of this. I questioned myself – What has Social Media done to us? Whether your rich, poor, and or wealthy no one is exempt from ‘FEELINGS’. We all have weak and strong moments but sadly many of us will rather “MASK” our true feelings just to appease the masses.
I was watching a particular interview in which Williams said: “Many people need to understand that “Suicide” is the permanent “Solution” for temporary “Problems”, not the contrary.” This was the second time I had heard this statement; the first time was on Dr. Oz daytime show.
Depression: the act of lowering something or pressing something down over a period of time., feeling hopelessness and inadequacy.
Like many other gifted celebrities that fallen to their death over Drug Overdose, Addiction, and Mental Illness, Williams reminds all of us to OPEN our eyes and look around because ‘No One Knows What Lies Behind The Surface’. Williams underlying pain was just as HUGE as his acting talent.
Be Kind, Show Compasion to others because you never know what someone might be going through.
#RIP Robin Williams ……… Gone Too Soon!
One Love PLUM’s!
