Who Is Treasure Davis?

Born and bred in Los Angeles, CA, ByStorm/RCA artist Treasure Davis channels many influences in her approach to life and music. “Passion, sincerity, complete artistic freedom and the boldness to be honest, are all the driving forces and the very life’s blood of my music and my life,” she muses. With a carefree personality and sunny disposition, Treasure effortlessly pulls you into her world of hopeful love and animated humor.

Her first single Someone New” captures that moment when you realize maybe it’s time to test new waters. Melodically delivered over a familiar Slick Rick sample, Treasure sways back and forth between keeping the guy or cutting him loose. Though perhaps knowing better, she sweetly purrs, “still I won’t try someone new.”

Treasure’s debut album speaks to that inner voice that sways your judgment when you think you’re in love. She talks you through every thought and decision that love dictates while rationalizing the bad and over-inflating the good.

Through her music, you hear yourself and every girlfriend you’ve ever poured your heart out to. In short, one listen and it’s clear that Treasure puts to music the things that can’t always be said aloud, but are deeply felt.

Raised in a creative and intellectually nurturing home, Treasure was encouraged by both of her artistic parents. Her mother, a painter and singer; and father, an accomplished sculptor and Urban Art gallery owner, both loved music and individually supported her love of the art that apparently began brewing as a toddler.

As the youngest, Treasure stayed on the heels of her two older twin siblings. While they played multiple instruments, Treasure’s voice was her instrument of choice. “I was always harmonizing and trying to keep up with them by singing,” she recalls.

Listening to Marvin Gaye, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder and other soulful R&B artists at home, deeply influenced her. However, it was her transfer from one of the most notorious gang affiliated schools in Los Angeles, to a safer, more diverse school in Pacific Palisades that broadened her musical palate. Coming in contact with different styles and backgrounds, Treasure expanded her perspective and began listening to a wide range of music. As a result, she counts artists as vastly different as Cyndi Lauper, Coldplay and Andre 3000 as key inspirations.

I was introduced to Treasure Davis music a few weeks ago and  like many of her fans, I fell deeply in love with her music and vocal sound.  Davis is definitely a breath of fresh air and this is just what the music industry is in need of. Every few years there’s an artist that comes along with a particular sound and music that captivates audiences around the globe, and music critics are calling  Treasure Davis the new “it girl”.
