And The Lead Part Goes To….
YaYa Dacosta has landed the lead role in Lifetime’s Whitney Houston biopics. According to TVLine, the former America’s Next Top Model alum was the perfect choice as she bares a striking resemblance to the late music icon.
The movie is slated for release in 2015 and Angela Bassett who co-starred alongside Houston in the 1995 ‘Waiting To Exhale’ film will direct the film.
The movie will focus primarily on the Whitney’s tumultuous relationship with Bobby Brown from the time they met until their divorce.
Sidebar: I love the direction of this film. From what I gathered from the public consensus, Houston’s personal story has yet to be told because its was constantly over-shadowed by her drug addiction, which was also linked to her untimely death.
As we previously reported, Houston’s family was not pleased with announcement as they [Pat Houston, and Whitney’s daughter – Bobbi-Krisitina] felt as though Houston movie should have received recognition on the big screen instead. Bobbi-Kris also noted that she should be only one playing her mother’s role.
Dacosta was a paid actor prior to her famed success a model. She has starred in ABC’s ‘Ugly Betty Show’, ‘All My Children’, and Lee Daniels ‘The Butler’movie. Dacosta does editorial prints peridocially [when she’s in the mood] but affirms that acting is her first love and her primary focus at this time.
