Lifetime network is set to release a short biopic film of the late singer Whitney Houston. Actress, Angela Bassett is said to be the executive producer of the project, and the movie is set to debut on television next year. Basset [who co-starred with Whitey in the 1995 hit movie “Waiting To Exhale”] said this of the film:
” I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments, and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera into their world. “
The only problem here is that Whitney Houston’s family is not happy about the announcement.
According to Houston’s sister, Pat Houston has earned the right to be on the big screen instead, and feels it would have a greater impact to her fans and legacy. Here’s what she told TMZ:
” Whitney is certainly worthy of more than a television movie If Whitney were here today, this would not be happening.”
Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina also added her thoughts and feels that she should be the only chosen character to play her mother.
” I don’t know how to feel, this so called ‘film’ isn’t positive thoughts. That’s my mother! What makes you think that’s ok with me…If anyone would or should ever play my mother & tell her story,…we’ve talked MANY times, and the only person she’d approve of is me. “
There will always be pros and cons of doing television and film scripts. The good news here is that Whitney will be honored. Given that it premiere on lifetime, it will be archived as one of the best movies on the network and can be replayed and remade for a lifetime.
Sounds like television maybe the best route to take. Stay Tuned PLUM’s!
